Incompetence

Trying something for the first time can be uncomfortable because I don’t enjoy feeling uncertain, tentative. I enjoy competence and confidence. I like to know what I am doing and feel comfortable and familiar. Today I was repointing a stone wall. I noticed I was dropping as much lime mortar on the floor as I was getting on the wall. Then I decided that it was okay because I am learning a new skill, and I will improve with practice. Just like learning a new skill in communication when I can accept that there will be messiness, I can breathe, relax into the present moment and enjoy the learning process in all its messiness, discovery, experiments, and experience wonder and gratitude for the growth and a great sense of satisfaction at the end.
