Navigating Life's Conflicts with Restorative Circles

Restorative Circles is a combination of Restorative Justice and Nonviolent Communication.

Living in community can have it's challenges, including collaborative decision making, facilitating meetings, managing volunteers, hosting guests, & working together. Unfortunately, most of us have not been taught how to navigate conflicts, in fact, often we avoid conflict, and it only gets worse over time.

Conflict arises because it is a normal part of being human. When a conflict is between two people, it often impacts more that those two, particularly when it happens in a community context.

This training offers a practical method for addressing conflict in a group, instead of a triad.

This is an introduction to a method of addressing conflict in a collaborative way. Through developing skills in listening, empathy, and facilitation, you will grow in confidence to hold space for conflict to happen in a way that is safe, respectful, effective and restorative. In this way relationships can actually blossom and deepen via the conflict restoration process. All of those who have completed the training will be invited to join an ongoing practice group where we will hold semi-simulated circles to hone our skills and gain confidence in facilitation.

Restorative Circles is based on the Pioneering work of founder Dominic Barter in the Favellas of Brazil.

Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th April, 10-4pm both days.

Moray Arts Centre, The Park, Findhorn Ecovillage.

BYO Lunch or purchase at the Phoenix shop/Cafe

There will be a Q&A session on Saturday 18th April at Legacy, The Park, Findhorn Ecovillage

Experience of Nonviolent Communication is helpful but not essential.

Navigating Anger & Rage, NVC for women

A 1-Day advanced training for female graduates of any NVC training.

Are you sabotaged by your anger creeping up on you and hijacking your best intentions? Are you longing for understanding around your explosive outbursts? this might be the workshop for you. We will lift the lid with sensitivity, care, and deep listening, leading to understanding, expression, release and relief.

We will explore female rage and anger in a safe respectful place, held with love, acceptance, and understanding. Together we will dig deep to discover the needs underneath eruptions of anger and rage, to better understand ourselves and our precious unmet needs. We will explore habitual ways of expressing anger that fall short of meeting our needs. Marshall Rosenberg calls them “Tragic expressions of un-met needs.”

We will unpack the underlying belief systems that perpetuate our anger and keep us in patterns of suppression, denial, avoidance and explosive expression.

Navigating Life - A Foundation Training in Compassionate Communication

Together as a group we explore what it is to be human and how our ideas and beliefs have shaped our experience of the world. We examine the way violence creeps into our thoughts and language causing conflict in our relationships. I reveal the common obstacles to communication, how to navigate conflicts, and understand the motivations and behaviours of others and yourself. Through gaining Empathy skills, you develop the capacity to be less triggered and more calm, to show up in your relationships with more self-responsibility, clarity, compassion, and honesty. Bringing you more ease, self-understanding, confidence, and peace. I use playful activities and games to address a variety of learning styles.

We call this a “semi-simulated circle” where only one member of the group is affected by the conflict. The group members take turns co-facilitating the process, we allow 1 hour for the circle. In this way, each time a different member of the group has an opportunity to practice this role and gain valuable experience asking the questions, holding the space, tracking, and translating dialogue. The role-play practice is followed by half an hour of feedback for the facilitator, and questions.
